Regional development is a new concept that aims at stimulating and diversifying economic activities, encouraging investments in the private sector, helping to reduce unemployment and not eventually, leading to an improvement in living standards.
Rural development occupies a distinct place in the regional policies and refers to the following aspects: removal/reduction of poverty in rural areas, balancing economic opportunities and social conditions between urban and rural areas, encouraging local initiatives, preservation of spiritual and cultural heritage.
The main areas that can be targeted by the regional policies are: enterprise development, employment market, attracting investment, transfer of technology, quality of the environment, rural development, health, education, culture, etc.
